Managing Hydration Requirements While Running

As the temperatures rise during the summer months, I was reminded of the need to manage fluid consumption. The short of it, I lost 4% of my pre-run weight after a 2 hour long run that included 21 oz of water mixed with HEED and Endurolytes. A 4% loss is not good!
From what I [...]

2008 DRC Bloomin 4 Mile Race Report

On Saturday I took on a local 4 mile road race called the DRC Bloomin 4 Mile. This is another one of the events put on by the Dallas Running Club. There were nearly 400 excited runners ready to take on the hot, humid, and windy conditions along the mostly flat shores of White [...]

Running Movies - Kickstart That Training

The Final Sprint posted an article on the upcoming Running Film Festival in Eugene Oregon. Yes, running film festival! No, not running while watching a film but actually watching a movie about running. Endurance junkies unite!
The current list of films:

Run Like Hell
Showdown: Five [...]

Garmin Forerunner 305 - Distance Test

The last couple weekends I wore my new Garmin Forerunner 305 along the same route and wanted to see if it would display consistent distance. The route contained a couple fairly straight roads as well as a 1.25 mile oval loop around a park.
Weekend 1 Garmin reading: 5.50 miles
Weekend 2 Garmin reading: 5.49 miles
A cross [...]

Limitless Potential - Yes You!

Many times we tell ourselves and others that we can’t do this or that. I am going to say 99.9% of the time, that is total garbage.
Check out the video of this 13 year old girl that chose to run a 50 mile trail race with her mother. I wonder how many others said she [...]

Boston Marathon Reflections

A few lessons hopefully learned from my Boston build-up and race:

3 high intensity sessions in one week (4 weeks from race) was not a wise idea. The full impact of that week didn’t fully manifest until two weeks later and then I was cooked with two weeks from race day. Not where you really want [...]

Running Strategy of a Professional in the Final Miles

Over the weekend Ironman Triathlon World Champion Chris Mccormack won the Wildflower Half Ironman event (1.2 mile swim - 56 mile bike - 13.1 mile run) and in this video he describes his run strategy within the last couple miles of the race as he was running side-by-side with another athlete, Eneko LLanos.
Realize, this is [...]

Foam Rollers - Serious Massage Work

I talked to a buddy of mine yesterday about my tweaked knee and tight hip. He is an ultra running veteran that has had to deal with all kinds of running injuries so he provided a bit of wisdom.
He mentioned how beneficial foam rollers (Perform Better - top site I found after a quick search) [...]

Garmin Forerunner 305 - Setup

After completing a couple test drives with my new Garmin Forerunner 305, I wanted to customize it a bit. Instead of winging it, I actually opened up the manual and followed along. Fortunately (which is not always the case), the manual was very easy to read and implement.
This unit has so many features that [...]

Soles4Souls - Donate Your Running Shoes

Do you have running shoes that you don’t use anymore? Would you like to help people of all ages around the world?
I found this neat organization a couple days ago.
Soles4Souls is a charitable organization delivering new and gently used shoes of all types to those in need around the world. Their slogan is “Changing the [...]
