Portals to Trail and Ultra Running Awesomeness

Trail and ultra running is such a dust granule segment of the running world that surprisingly contains a bountiful collection of resources both local and beyond, that share groovy information and entertainment for our wacky tribe!

Let’s meet many of them.

TALON (TX, AR, LA, OK, NM) Awesomeness

Arkansas Outside – AO is a great Arkansas focused site by Joe Jacobs and Lisa Mullis that contains not only trail/ultra running stories but fresh air goodies on cycling, climbing, paddling, hiking, backpacking, and anything else that draws their attention related to the Arkansas outdoors.

Here is a good write-up on the recently held LOViT 100k.

Operation Ultra – Operation Ultra is a fairly new project by Arkansas husband and wife team of Dustin and Rachel Speer who also co-RD the LOViT 100k. Their focus – ultra running in the South.

Here is a recent podcast interview about the Louisiana trail scene.

Our little team here at EB is honored to be part of this community and tries our darnedest to add value to our regional trail and ultra scene.

Giddy-up…onto the national and global trail and ultra scene.

National and Global Awesomeness

The Trail Father sites: Run100s and UltRunR – 100 mile listings, ultra slam, ultra series, how-tos, and more…

iRunFar – Bryon Powell, Meghan Hicks and a team of contributors crank out the goodness on a daily basis. You will find coverage on some of the biggest trail/ultra races both on the national and global scene. Plus an abundance of other useful and insightful articles about our sport.

Here is a great recent article on downhill running tips.

Ultra Runner Podcast – A great podcast put together by Eric Schranz that shares stories and insights on all things ultra…along with a bit of beer talk to balance things out.

Here is a recent interview with 17 year old Texas fast-footed trail runner, Ford Smith.

Talk Ultra – An Ian Corless podcast on both the national and global trail and ultra scene.

Trail Runner Nation – Another dandy podcast led by the 3-pack of Don Freeman, Scott Warr, and Faith Gross. Trail running goodies for the experienced and trail virgin.

Here is a recent interview with Candice Burt on a recent light-hearted blog about ultra runners and excess.

whatisultra – Short video clips known to cause giggles, snorts, and a few tears.

How about one about our own TALON athlete, Liza Howard.

And one for us fellow race directors.

Ultra Sports Live TV – A fairly new project bringing high quality live video coverage to trail and ultra running races. They were actually here for Rocky Raccoon 100.

Here are a couple pre-race interviews from RR100:

Trail and Ultra Running – Based out of Utah, these guys create articles on a wide range of topics related to trail and ultra running.

The Mags – Print Media

The Trail Ultra Mag Father: Ultrarunning – This dandy publication started back in 1981. Tips, race reports, results, for all-things ultra running.

Trail Runner – Trail and ultra running. All distances.

Marathon and Beyond – Bi-monthly. Deep and rich stories and articles on both the marathon and beyond. Well, duh!

Quite a list of amazing resources for our tiny sport!

To help stay in the loop of what is happening for many of these sites, I have added their latest posting to my sidebar to help bring us all together on a local, regional, national, and global level.

Be active – Feel the buzz!
