2012 Western States 100 – TALON Athlete Results

It was an adventure-filled weekend for 15 TALON athletes as they embarked on a Western States 100 journey that included rain, bone-chilling temps, sleet, hail, and the warming sun. The varied weather likely emulated the range of emotions and experiences our athletes encountered across the 100 miles.

While course records were crushed at the pointy-end by Timothy Olson (14:46:44!) and Ellie Greenwood (16:47:17!), our TALON athletes put on a display of courage, heart, and some pretty darn fast tread of our own. We had four athletes in the top 75! Out of the 15 athletes that started the race, 14 made it to Auburn. Texan, Robert Lepine, must have encountered a significant issue as he dropped at Red Star Ridge checkpoint, mile 16. (Does anyone know what happened to Robert?)
The Fast to the Final TALON Finisher
Texan, Glenn Mackie, was the first TALON athlete to arrive in Auburn in a spicy 19:17:15! Glenn knocked off over 2.5 hours from his first attempt on this course back in 2004. Just past the midway point at Michigan Bluff (mile 55.7), Glenn sat in 48th position overall. Over the next 45 miles Glenn gained another 10 positions to finish the journey 38th overall (30th male)!
Texan, Liza Howard, was our top female tread crossing the line in 21:00:05, 14th female! Liza hung out in the 10-12th female position for much of the race. The final 20 miles appeared to require extra determination as her pace began to slow a bit which allowed a couple other females to sneak by during these closing miles. She dug deep to finish this one!

Texan, Kyle McQuire, was our final TALON finisher, arriving in Auburn during the mid morning hours and 29:11:52 finish time! Kyle appeared to run very consistently throughout the day. Mile 10 in 340th position. Mile 55 in 297th position. The finish in 281st position. Seemed like a well executed race.
Our Slammers
So how did our ultra slammers do?
Texan, Paul Terranova, finished 47th overall in his first 100 mile race with a time of 20:12:15!
