Squash Blossom Classic Trail Run – 2011 Results

Over 160 trail runners played on the High Desert Trail System just north of Gallup, New Mexico. The Squash Blossom Classic included a half marathon, 4.5 mile, and 1 mile fun run. The half marathon is also run in memory of local runner, Kent Hodges.

The counter-clockwise loops contains a mix of sweet views intermixed with some technical terrain to keep ya honest.

Results

Kent Hodges Memorial Half Marathon

LeAndrew Martine averaged a spicy 6:30 min/mile pace within the challenging terrain to win the half marathon by nearly seven minutes with a 1:25:22 finish time.

Elroy Tso was alone in second and crossed the line in 1:32:14.

Carletta Segay ran within the top 10 overall inspiring those behind to push for second place. Carletta won the female race by nearly eight minutes witha time of 1:46:45.

The dash for second saw Stephanie Littlehat and Janel Lanphere a little over a minute apart at the end of 13 miles of running. Stephanie was able to create the gap and earn second in 1:54:12.

4.5 mile

Cynthia Chavez, Maxine Johnson, and Lori Todachcheene all finished within an 11 second window that set the stage for an exciting finish.

Lori found a way to create an eight second gap to win the female race in 39:28.

A short breath later, Maxine crossed the line while holding off Cynthia by three seconds. Maxine earned second in 39:36.

Chad Upshaw’s 6:20 pace created a 47 second gap from the chase group, to win the male race in sub-30 time of 28:32.

Alfred Murphy Jr. held off Zach Serma to finish second in 29:19.

Inspiration Point

Check out some of the wisest finishers. I hope this stuff fires you up as much as it does me.

  • Robert Charles (age 60), Robert Tohe (age 62), Rob Koops (age 68), Peter Procopio (age 66), Cathryn Russell (age 64) all enjoyed the 4.5 mile run.
  • Howard Maat (age 72) and Helen Silversmith (age 72) took on the half marathon.
