FatAsstic Challenge in the Ho – 2011 Big Bumper Results

The Houston Trail Runners Extreme put together a fun Fat Ass trail running adventure over the weekend at Memorial Park in Houston. This 3/6 hour run was called the FatAsstic Challenge in the Ho and unlike many of the events this time of year, this fun started at 6 AM with the final runners ending their scamper near high noon. Drink up ya say!

The FA organizers were extremely happy about the turnout.

“We had 42 official finishers, a few spectators, a few drop-ins who came by to give their support and most importantly a great set of volunteers!”

And of course, the conditions were August in Texas.

“The temperatures ranged from the mid 70s and 80% humidity (felt like 100%) at the 6AM start to about 90 degrees and 50% humidity at 11AM.”

Runner’s had their choice of clockwise or counter-clockwise five mile loops.

I must also must include a big high-five for making this event cup-free!

HTRex had their own unique format for listing the finishers with most miles and most time on their tread listed first.

The HTRex summary:

Gill Lawson completed 20 miles (four loops) in 5:08 along with five other runners going for the 20 mile goal.

Seventeen runners covered 15 miles (three loops) with Sunshine Phan covering the distance in 3:34.

Twelve runners covered 10 miles (two loops) with Julie Garcia reaching that goal in 3:33.

Seven completed 5 miles (one loop) with Mark Bernoski reaching that goal in 2:04.

No t-shirts, no medals, no cups, no whining. Therefore, no race reports!
Anyway… thanks to Mariela and everyone who volunteered, we had a great time! That was my first time out on the trails at Memorial Park even though I have lived in the greater Houston area for 40 years. They did not disappoint, and I have a huge bruise on my right knee to prove it!

Hey! I took a nap between loops 1 & 2! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Hey Maryann – Sounded like a great time! And you can’t say you went home empty handed. 😉 Happy healing!

Julie – This summer heat has put many a runner to sleep this year. 🙂
