Los Chupacabras de la Noche Trail Run – 2011 Results

On the evening of July 22, over 900 runners played within the heavily wooded trails at the Los Chupacabras De La Noche in San Antonio. Another night time adventure so forget a light – eat some tree bark.

The 10 km and 5 km courses have some technical components that include sections of rock, roots, and Limbo-like branches.

10 km

Seven runners in the male race averaged a sub 7-minute pace but the male win was filtered down to Adam Warden and Justin Gonzalez. An average of six seconds per mile eventually separated the two with Justin Gonzalez earning the win in 40:49 (gun time).

Adam followed shortly in 41:22.

Lisa Coleman averaged a 7:25 pace that created nearly a half mile separation at the finish line to win the female race in 46:06 (gun time).

Kathy was alone in second place and crossed the finish line in 49:36.

5 km

Both the female and male 5 km winners ran the second fastest 5 km splits per tag time but had the fastest gun time.

While Cassie Morales had the fastest tag time by nine seconds, Esperanza Garibay had the fastest gun time finish and won the female race in 26:58 (tag time – 26:54).

Cassie Morales ended up earning runner-up honors and finished (tag time) in 26:45.

Ariel Faz ran his 5 km 48 seconds faster than Conrad Carbaugh but positioned himself over two minutes behind the start line which allowed Conrad to take the male win in 20:09 (gun time).

Ariel finished second with a tag time of 19:00 (gun time 21:20).

  • Ed Harry enjoyed the 10 km night run in the 65-69 age group.
  • Jesse Estrada celebrated the 5 km finish in the 70-99 age group.
