Here are some notes and news for the TALON region.
TALON Athlete Interviews
Texas ultra runner, Liza Howard was recently interviewed at Runner’s World and talked about training, racing, a rock star husband, and nursing her young child at aid-stations during a 50 km.

I will have to say, the “Liza Invitational” is nutty-coolness and highlights the beauty of the sport – any time, any place, just go.

Texas ultra runner, Olga Varlamova talks about running and racing in the state of Texas within a solid RunPals interview.

I dig Olga’s running advice – Don’t feel sorry for yourself in a race. Train hard. Run with joy.
Olga also mentioned she will be in the May issue of Texas Runner & Triathlete so be sure to check that out.
Marshall Ulrich Book Signing and more – Houston
You may recall when hugely accomplished ultra athlete, Marshall Ulrich (at age 57) ran from San Francisco to New York City for 52 days beginning in the September 2008. The film Running America (my thoughts) highlighted some of this adventure.
Marshall has recently wrote a book called Running on Empty: An Ultramarathoner’s Story of Love, Loss, and a Record-Setting Run Across America. This book will share intimate moments from the epic cross country journey and other experiences from throughout his adventure filled life.
So far…Marshall has announced he will be in the Houston area for two events relating to Running on Empty.
- April 22 – Burke Baker Planetarium from 7 to 9 p.m.. Reception, presentation/reading, and book signing. Free but limited seeing so sign up if interested!
- April 23 – Barnes & Nobles at 2030 West Gray from 7 to 9 p.m.. Reception, presentation/reading, and book signing.
This should definitely be a cool experience for those interested in ultra adventures.
Check out Marshall’s event listing for more locations and dates. There are currently no other locations in the TALON region.
Special Promotions – If interested in the book, Marshall is going to have some special promotions and prizes listed on his blog for 52.5 hours (number of days to finish the adventure) starting on April 14.
Be active – Feel the buzz!
