Seasonal Clif Bars and Clif Shot Makeover – Plus One Groovy Giveaway!

During the Fall/Winter season, Clif Bar has moved into their new energy-efficient headquarters, rolled out some seasonal endurance bar flavors, and revamped their gel product.

New Headquarters

Here is a video touring the new building and highlighting some of its sustainability features.

(If you can’t see the video, click here.)

Kind of cool!

Seasonal Clif Bar Flavors

For a short period of time, Clif creates a seasonal triad of unique and tasty endurance bar flavors to fuel your active body that include Cranberry Orange Nut Bread, Iced Gingerbread, and Spiced Pumpkin Pie.

They all zing with flavors you will likely not notice any other time of the year and 70% of the ingredients are organic.

Clif Shot Revampage

Clif Shot went back to the kitchen and reworked their gel fueling product.

What changed?

  • New flavors – Mocha, Razz, Vanilla, Chocolate Cherry, Double Expresso, Strawberry, Citrus, and Chocolate
  • Thinner Consistency
  • More electrolytes – Sodium between 60 and 90 mg, Potassium between 50 and 85 mg.
  • 3 levels of Caffeine – 25 mg (1/2 shot), 50 mg (1 shot), and 100 mg (2 shot)

I have tried every flavor but Vanilla and most had a moderately strong flavor. All gels are made from 85-90% organic ingredients. I did find it interesting that Green Tea Extract is the caffeine source for the gels that included some extra kick.

Flavor musings

  • Mocha (1 shot) – Smooth peanut buttery-like chocolate taste. Yeah baby! Mild flavor. My Favorite.
  • Razz – Strong raspberry flavor.
  • Chocolate – Seemed a bit thicker consistency than some of the others.
  • Strawberry (1/2 shot) – Mild flavor.
  • Citrus (1/2 shot) – Key Lime pie in a gel. Strong flavor.
  • Chocolate Cherry (2 shot) – Rich flavor.
  • Double Expresso (2 shot) – Nothing shy about this one. For those that like their coffee with extra black.

One thing I wish Clif would do with their gels is provide a bulk purchase option such as a recyclable jug that could be used with a reusable flask. This would seem like a more environmentally friendly option than to toss all of the empty gel packets into the garbage.

You can pick up Clif Shots at your local running store or stock up with a box of Clif Shots from Running Warehouse and receive an Endurance Buzz discount (10%) at checkout.

Giveaway Time!

I received a nice sample package of the bars and gels from Clif and I just have to share some with you.

I have two packages to give away from the hive at Endurance Buzz:

  • 3-pack of the seasonal Clif Bars (one of each)
  • 7 Clif Shot gels (one of each flavor except Vanilla)

How to enter?

Simply add a comment in this blog post sharing what you most enjoy about trail and/or ultra running.

The drawing will close at the end of Sunday, December 12. The two unique drawing winners will be announced Monday and I will e-mail the winners.

Good luck!

Be active – Feel the buzz!

I enjoy the quiet solitude with nature on a long trail run. No music just my footsteps ,breathing, and nature.

can I say how much I love trail and ultra walking? I love ultras and trails so much better than road racing because I feel like ultra folk are a different breed and they mostly accept me for me. No judging out there in those beautiful woods!

I enjoy getting out for runs with my group of friends.

Also, I feel like I’m due on these giveaways.

I ran White Rock last weekend, and while I did have a pretty good time I was reminded that trail racing is so much better! Trees, lakes, and dirt are so much better than houses, buildings, and pavement. Shoulder to shoulder on single track is so much better than shoulder to shoulder with 20000 people on the street. The sounds of nature are so much better than the sounds of loud bands every mile.

The solitude and peace I find when out on the trail

The obvious connection with nature; but, even more, I love the challenge… The chance to show how far you can go and the sense of belonging the trails provides. There truly isn’t anything better!

I love the concentration and foot movement required on the rocky trails I run around here. Really forces you to get your mind off anything everything else.

I love running where I don’t have to worry about getting run over and can enjoy the solitude. Plus face planting on dirt works better than on concrete 😉 just saying…

I guess I just enjoy being alone out in in the woods with just nature and my thoughts to keep me company.

In the Spring I love seeing the butterflies floating around me in the trails.
In the Summer I love the sauna effect that keeps my skin soft and suple.
In the Fall I love hearing the swish swish swish of fall leaves under my feet.
In the Winter I love being able to wear all my long sleeve shirts and jackets.

What do I like most about trail and/or ultra running?

Hrm, what to choose. The companionship of my running buddies? The beauty of running in nature? The joy or being able to run for hours on end?

If I had to choose one thing, I think I’d have to go with something else…

    The lack of traffic.

I don’t like running near cars. I don’t like the exhaust or noise they put off. I don’t like getting hit by them.

Not as much of that to worry about when running trails.

I love being alone with my thoughts. Trail running is very rewarding because you get off the asphalt and closer to nature.
