Trail Running Course

Squash Blossom Classic – 2010 Results

Just north of Gallup, New Mexico, nearly 100 runners enjoyed the Squash Blossom Classic for a half marathon, 4.5 mile, or a 1 mile fun run.

The Squash Blossom Classic guided runners on the scenic and challenging counter clockwise loop on the High Desert Trail System. Some rugged terrain, short steep sections, junipers, pinions, and plenty of natural beauty – yep, this be trail running.

The half mary and 4.5 miles use the same trail but the short course runners take a couple short cut-throughs to bypass a few significant sections of trail so they can connect to the final mile(s) of the course.

Half Marathon

The top males all appeared to have one extra gear than the person behind them as roughly three minutes separated one from the next. Willis Sandoval led this train and finished the half mary in 1:33:09. Lionel Salabye cruised in three-ish minutes later for second place.

Inspiration Point

Check out the wisest finishers. I hope this stuff fires you up as much as it does me.

  • Gilbert Louis (age 75!) and Esther Felipe (age 80!) both rocked on the 4.5 mile course.

Also great to see a group of youth age 12-18, enjoying nature and the active life.

Life is play. Play is life.
