How To Be Like Ultrarunner Kilian Jornet – Kilian’s Quest #7

Did you notice the universal training elements and how it can relate to us:

1. Specificity

  • You want to be a good trail runner? You need to run…on trails.
  • 50 km or 100 mile – Tailor the training for the particular distance.
  • Mountain, hilly, or flat race – Tailor (as best you can) the training for the particular terrain.
  • Walk training – Most of us will walk at times in an ultra, practice it in your training…with your particular race shoes. You will learn how to walk faster, be more efficient, and become aware of any potential blister/foot issues with the shoes.

Quality Nutrition – Massage – Sleep – Stretching

The more you expect from your body, the more good things you must give it.

In our fast paced lives this area is often overlooked.

There are plenty of opportunities to improve recovery. Pick one and go after it.

Kilian sums it up nicely, “But the secret is the same as for anything else, you have to get out there every day and train and train. And when you train anything is possible.

BAM! It can be as simple as that.

The beauty of sport is that it can often translate to the rest of our lives.

Specificity – Recovery – Consistency

The above mentioned training elements will not only support your ultra running goals but can support any life goals as well. Look, think, reflect, then decide for yourself.

While you may not be able to run up a mountain like Kilian (very few can), you can practice the exact same skills he uses and support your dreams and goals. So yes, you can be like Kilian!
