Back on My Feet Arrives in Dallas Texas

On June 18th, it was announced that a Back on My Feet chapter is coming to Dallas, Texas. The north Texas location was selected as one of the three expansion cities for 2011 (along with Minneapolis – St. Paul and Atlanta).

What is Back on My Feet?

First, it involves running. Secondly, but more importantly, it creates the potential to change lives of the homeless in our area.

Back on My Feet (BOMF) was founded by runner, Anne Mahlum. Anne often ran by a homeless shelter during her morning run and began to develop a relationship with those she would repeatedly meet. Then one morning Anne thought of an idea that could help the homeless help themselves while using running as the foundation for change. In July 2007, BOMF was born!

BOMF is a nonprofit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of homeless populations by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem.

We do not provide food or shelter, but instead provide a community that embraces equality, respect, discipline, teamwork and leadership. Our organization consists of much more than just running: our members participate in a comprehensive program that offers connections to job training, employment and housing. Those benefits are earned by maintaining 90 percent attendance at the morning runs three days a week for our six to nine month program.
