New Texas Trail Running Club – Texas Trail Nerds

“A trail nerd is a runner who loathes the pavement, does not let a little bad weather stop them, does not whine, and is always ready to help a fellow trail runner. They originate from Kansas City, then like little seeds, propogate in other areas.” – Texas Trail Nerds

For those in the north Houston area looking for a trail running group to learn, laugh, and knock out some miles in the dirt, you may want to check out the recently created Texas Trail Nerds.

The club has received inspiration from the Kansas City Trail Nerds and guidance from Ben Holmes to lay the foundation to be a club that makes a positive impact in the region.

I was impressed by a list of goals for the club noted in their first Texas Trail Nerds blog post:

  • Volunteer or time at races
  • Trail Maintenance
  • Beginner Trail Running Program
  • Group Night Runs
  • Organize out-of-town races for members
  • Environmentally friendly actions to reduce our footprint
  • Host local “Fat Ass” events
  • When the time is right, host own trail run event

Where are the Nerds running? What are they doing?

The clubs main communication appears to be their Facebook page: Texas Trail Nerds

They also have a blog aptly named, Texas Trail Nerds.

Check them out.

we’re from Abilene and have just moved to Bandera. I’m looking for a running club to help me get back into the spirit of things. I’ve run 9 marathons and am thinking of at least one more to bring it to double digits.

I need to know more about the club and when things happen.
