Run The Caldera Trail Run – 2010 Results

On June 12th, New Mexico delivered a scenic trail running experience in the Valles Caldera National Preserve. The event is aptly-named the Run the Caldera. If the marathon distance doesn’t interest you, they also provided a half marathon and 10 km course so nearly everyone can get their trail fix.

A video of some amazing images of the area.

Athletes run nearly all of their event above 8,000 feet along many logging roads in the area.

The loop marathon course will enjoy over 2100 feet of elevation change and contains a big climb that brings you up near 10,000 feet. The half marathon and 10 km course, don’t take you up to the same nose bleed height but still offers plenty of elevation variety.

Race Reports

  • marathon – “I had only one goal; run the best damn mountain trail marathon I could muster and, with any luck, break five hours.” by S. Baboo @ Studies in Clydeology
  • half marathon – “…there was this thing right in the middle of my half marathon that I so lovingly refer to as the “space needle”. What that translates to for a normal person is a “Mount Gigantasaurus is in my way and I have to go over it”.” – by Courtney @ Ride to Remedy

Sounded like a fun, fun day on the trails.

Anyone else have a race experience they would like to share?
