Destination Ultramarathon: Jungle Marathon 2009 Stage 3

Destination ultramarathon kick-off series continues with Stage 3 (Stage 1, Stage 2) of the Jungle Marathon held in the beautiful and challenging jungle in Brazil.

Stage 3

Ultra athletes travel 37.63 km from Paraiso to Pini. This is supposed to be a pretty flat day with few river crossings and no swampin’. This never means easy or without some excitement.

“longest 10 km of my life”

“It went well, but I am glad it is over…I saw a big black and gray snake…my adrenaline kicked in and I ran so fast.”

“..it sat just behind a tree and glared at you and you think…bloody hell…and then it let out this really long and deep growl and you think…shit…and the heart rate goes up to about 200…”

Sweet video by adambrown.tv capturing the essence of the stage.

Did you see racer #16 towards the end. Talk about inspiring!

Watching this, I am reminded:

  • The significance of listening to the body and managing your personal electrolyte/calorie needs.
  • The beauty of the human spirit, and the amazing potential we all have within us. Explore your potential, in all areas of life!

Have a great weekend.
