Jemez Trail Run in La Sportiva Mountain Cup Series

There aren’t too many races in our region (Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico) that are part of national race series. Just recently it was announced (March 2) that the Jemez Mountain Trail Run – Half Marathon will be included in the La Sportiva Mountain Cup Series.

What is the La Sportiva Mountain Cup Series?

This 10 race series, tries to bring European-style mountain racing to the United States. This series will include hilly, mountainous, and scenic forest trail running events. Individual points are accumulated after each event with $25,000 in cash and prizes distributed at the end of the series. Top three male/female in Open and Masters division at the end of the series will take home some cash. (Scoring and Awards)

Another New Mexico event is also included in the series, the Up & Over 10 km on August 21, located at the Taos Ski Valley. This event starts athletes at 9207 feet and then leads them 2612 feet up for the next three miles and then downhill to the finish.

Breath in – Breath out – Breath in – Breath out!

The Bad News

Unfortunately for those interesting the the Jemez half marathon, the 70 available slots as of the announcement date were taken within eight days. The 50 mile and 50 km events still has slots available but they are not part of the La Sportiva Mountain Cup Series.

Sorry for being late to the party on this one.

The Good News

More and more people are experiencing the joys of what nature has to offer. Hopefully this joy will help protect it for generations to come.
