- because they are tough
- because there is no guarantee of a finish (the adventure, the challenge)

I agree that there is always another race. I say this without having experienced a DNF...yet. I am sure it would still create some type of emotional internal dialogue for me. I also agree on the significance of the &quot;journey&quot; which contains everything in the lead-up to the race and whatever the race day brings. 

Getting to the start line healthy is HUGE in the ultra world. 

You are ready!

Now I need to go work on my communication skills. :)</description>

The biggest achievement has been made for me, I am making it to the starting line healthy and will run with my fellow ultra runners.
