Trail Running Inspiration – Kilian’s Quest

Inspiration – Adventure – Beauty – Challenge – Excellence – Trail Running

If any of those sound interesting to you, be sure to check out the professional quality Kilian’s Quest video series supported by Solomon.

Kilian Jornet has been doing some amazing things in mountain/trail running, especially in Europe where he lives.

Kilian has also been to the US to challenge himself on the 165 mile Tahoe Rim trail where he ran the entire trail and set a new record of 38 hours 32 minutes. The old record was held by five time Western States 100 champion, Tim Twietmeyer. Jornet beat the old record by over seven hours. This amazing accomplishment is included in the video series and you will also see some familiar trail running faces (such as Bryon Powell,  Sean Meissner) supporting Jornet during the run.

The Man Behind the Fast Feet

Here are a few quotes (translated from Spanish) from Jornet’s website which provides a tiny glimpse of the passion and fire that burns inside this amazing runner.

“Kiss or kill. Kiss or kill. kisses glory or die trying. Losing is dying, winning is felt. The struggle is what differentiates one win, one winner.”

“No fear of dying from falling into the empty sky, not afraid to run between continents burning rays. There is nothing to fear must be felt, let your instincts guide your senses beyond where no one has dared not even directing his gaze. Big.”

“To be great you have to want to beat the best. one must want to fight alone against those who have proved their greatness. We must chart a course in the world, travel to meet them and like fire, defeat.”

“Being crazy. The difference between those who win and those who lose. The difference is the Kamikaze spirit, one that led to generations of Japanese to die for having nothing inside the head can make us look back, turn or brake.”

Listening to the soft spoken Jornet, it is hard to observe the warrior hidden just below the surface of his skin. Once on the trail, there is no hiding it. His feet obviously have the bigger voice.

There is something else I notice while watching and reading about Jornet. There is this huge amount of potential energy built up within his being and once on the trail it is released in a tension-less way. He just runs.

Be sure to check out the Kilian’s Quest series.

Hey Tony – Both Tim and Kilian are studs. Would Kilian even have a desire to run 25 WS events? It seems like his goals are on a global level so who knows where his dreams will take him.

WS should be exciting. Hopefully everyone comes in healthy.
