Rockledge Rumble – Get Ready To…Well, You Know
By David Hanenburg on 13 Nov 2009 at 10:01 am | Tagged as: trail running or ultrarunning
We are at the eve of the 2009 Rockledge Rumble 50/30/15 km trail run held out at Grapevine Lake which is comfortably tucked in between Dallas and Fort Worth, just north of the DFW airport.
Conditions are looking extremely mild with lows tonight dropping to an extremely pleasant 59 F and highs tomorrow peaking out at 75 F. Current predictions show a cloudy morning with the sun showing herself after noon-time.
What else can there be but perfect conditions!
Hydration and electrolytes will be the mental-note of the day. Highly recommended to carry some hydration system (bottle, back/waist pack). Aid-stations are not every mile like road races.
What will the aid-station buffet tables have on hand (from the Rumble site)?
The aid stations will be stocked with water, HEED sports drink, Coke, Sprite, PB&J sandwiches, M&Ms, gummi bears, cookies, chips, fruit, Tums, papaya enzymes, Vaseline, and toilet paper.
How Far Really?
I have some insider information for you straight from Rockledge Rumble headquarters. For those new to trail running, when an event is advertised as 50km or 30km, let’s just say that makes for recognized and pretty print but is rarely a literal representation. You could probably expect a 10% +/- depending on the how the trail route plays out.
Go with the flow! Trail runners are a more laid-back and loose group so don’t expect some certified route. Everyone runs the same route…usually (unless you get lost).
Based on current race route GPS measurements, here are the trail-stimate course distances:
- 50km race – approximately 33.1 miles
- 30km race – approximately 20.65 miles
- 15km race – approximately 9.3 miles
This race continues to over deliver! In today’s world of cutbacks and down-sizing, the Rockledge Rumble has just giving your more race for your dollar! Be grateful, especially during those last couple miles when your feet and legs are aching and you should already be off your feet enjoying the tasty red beans and rice.
