Whey Protein Without Treated Growth Hormones Price Comparison

Money Money Money. Here is a quick little price comparison per gram of protein for the whey protein powders that are not treated with growth hormones. Note, this is not a complete list of products available but include those mentioned in my non-rBST/rBGH whey protein article.

Let’s run through the list.

  • Jay Robb (100% whey protein isolate) – Price (2 sizes): $43.76 (24 oz), Servings = 23 and $23.75 (12 oz), Servings = 11, Grams protein per serving for both sizes = 25 g

Cost per gram of protein (24 oz) = $.076 (note: as of 3/18/09 the product is on sale for $39.38 which puts the price at $.068 per gram of protein.)

Cost per gram of protein (12 oz) = $.086 (note: as of 3/18/09 the product is on sale for $21.37 which puts the price at $.077 per gram of protein.)

  • Whey Factors (whey protein concentrate and isolate, includes a few enzymes) – Price: $11.97 (12 oz), Servings = 17, Grams of protein per serving = 15 g

Cost per gram of protein (12 oz) = $.047

  • Whey To Go Protein Powder (whey protein isolate, concentrate, and hydrolyzed, free-form BCAAs. free-form L-Glutamine) – Price (2 sizes): $18.60 (12 oz), servings = 17, and $40.00 (32 oz), Servings = 45,  Grams protein per serving for both sizes = 16 g

Cost per gram of protein (12 oz) = $.068

Cost per gram of protein (32 oz) = $.055

  • Mercola Whey Protein Powder (whey protein concentrate, Aminogen enzyme, and a few synthetic vitamins) – Price: $37.97 (14.8 oz), Servings = 18, Grams protein per serving = 17

Cost per gram of protein (14.8 oz) = $.124 ($.108 per gram of protein if buy 3-pack)

Even though all of these products are primarily whey protein, they are not completely an apples-to-apples comparison. Some of the products include various forms of protein and additional ingredients that can have an impact on the price. These are a few of the things to consider when determining the right product for you.

Happy Training!
