Last week put the weekly volume near 60 miles and I was able to hold it together!
Over the weekend I completed my first back-to-back long run of about 20 miles each day. One of them was on the trail and the other road.
I did see my first snake on the trail as I was near […]

Sunday is the BSLT half Ironman in Lubbock Texas. This race is my favorite half Ironman because it has all of the elements for an exciting day…wetsuit swim (yeah!), hills, heat, and more heat. It is a day anything can happen and I have been known to like a few challenges.
I have a good buddy, […]

Are you running too fast or too slow for your workout?
If you are unsure about that answer and you like to train based off of pace, Mcmillan Running provides a very cool running calculator that will provide your training pace range for various types of training such as long, tempo, and interval/speed work.

Not another step!
This one thought was pounding through my head as I completed my long run of 26.12 miles on Saturday. The schedule said 26 miles. I thought, why not add an additional .2 miles. How tough could that be?
I stopped at 26.12 miles! I could tell early on that the run was going to […]

Another endurance sports video! I recently watch a triathlon documentary/film - What it Takes. The film follows four top professional Ironman triathletes (Peter Reid, Lori Bowden, Heather Fuhr, and Luke Bell) for a complete season as they work their way towards the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. It is more a behind […]

My first week of the eight week build phase is complete. It was a solid week of training that now includes tempo mile repeats as well as a fairly serious long run which will eventually turn into runs. (gulp!)
During my long run, I also performed a hydration test to try and determine my personal fluid […]

Since I had some hydration issues last weekend during a two hour run, I figured I better get this under control So, yesterday during my long run (23 miles) I decided to force the fluid/electrolyte consumption and see how the body responded.
My goal was to consume 20oz per hour while running in an easy/aerobic pace. […]

With a more recent focus on purely running I wanted to become more knowledgeable on the training aspects of the sport. While visiting McMillian Running I watched a preview of the DVD, Jack Daniels - The Art and Science of Running. With Jack Daniels being a coaching Icon in the sport, I […]

As the temperatures rise during the summer months, I was reminded of the need to manage fluid consumption. The short of it, I lost 4% of my pre-run weight after a 2 hour long run that included 21 oz of water mixed with HEED and Endurolytes. A 4% loss is not good!
From what I […]

On Saturday I took on a local 4 mile road race called the DRC Bloomin 4 Mile. This is another one of the events put on by the Dallas Running Club. There were nearly 400 excited runners ready to take on the hot, humid, and windy conditions along the mostly flat shores of White […]
