Events from Today and Race Strategy

Well tomorrow is the day. A day to be grateful for this opportunity and to celebrate it to the best of my ability. A special thanks to my wife and son for coming along and supporting me on this little trip. It has been a interesting trip but one that I will forever be grateful for. I look forward to seeing them around the 20 mile mark tomorrow and then at the finish.

Today consisted of driving out to the start area to get a feel for the logistics of driving out there tomorrow morning. Wendy and G are going to drop me off at about 6:30 am. Hopefully that will go smoothly. Thanks hon!

Race start time: 10AM EST

My strategy for this event is a bit of the roll of the dice. I haven’t ran a road race to get a feel for my fitness levels and I have not followed a structure training plan so this will be a bit of an experiment. My plan is to take the first two miles out at 7:15 min/mile pace and then try and work 7 min/miles till the hills start around mile 16. Work my way through the hills the best I can and save something for the final 5 miles home. The first half has to feel easy so that will be a gauge as I work through the miles. If they don’t feel easy, I will back it off.

The weather looks great. It is going to be about 50F at start time. I think a high around 60F.

I also plan to wear my heart rate monitor to cross check effort and to help eliminate running low of fuel.

Time for bed! Thanks for all of well wishes from friends and family!
