Ironman World Championships Replay

For those that missed it the first time (including me), the Ironman World Triathlon Championship will replay at 2pm EST (NBC) on Saturday.

This event takes place in Kona Hawaii where qualifying pros and age-groupers from around the world take on a course that includes a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run, and the elements of the island. Since we are talking about Hawaii, the elements can include heat, humidity, and blow-you-off-your-bike winds. You would think the distance would be the toughest part, but for many the elements are the true challenge of the day.

I have watched the event in-person twice and can say it is truly a special event to watch. Excellence and the strength of the human spirit are on display everywhere you look.

Since you can’t come close to covering a 17 hour event within 1 1/2 hours, viewers either love it or hate it, depending on how the coverage is edited down. You can never substitute being at the event but it definitely provides a nice little sampling of the day.

Add a comment and let me know what you thought of the coverage if you get a chance to watch it.

Enjoy!
